Based on a recommendation from a collegue at Six Apart, I decided to go see Jonny Lang in concert this summer. My wife and I were blown away. He was terrific. He has a unique voice, plays a great guitar, and his songs come off with amazing power. Not to mention that the lyrics are very good, clear, and easy to understand (important for the 40+ generation :)).
To prove how excited we were, we came home purchased his latest album on Itunes and introduced it the following morning to our kids. My 11 year old now has a new favorite band.
Recently I have noticed more people using LinkedIn to build and publish their resumes. Some of the people that I used to manage are even linking their recommendations to online my resume. The most recent one, from James, almost made me cry
Now that the weather is getting so good, I have been thinking long and hard about where and when I would like to spend my vacation this summer. Since I have 4 kids ages 11, 8, 6, and 1 I need to be practical. For example, long long car or airplane rides are not necessary vacations.... Here are my top ideas
- Yosemite National Park - Thinking of staying at Tanaya Lodge
- Sun Valley Idaho - July 7th - Need to be there anyway for friends wedding . I love Idaho in the summer.
- Santa Barbara - Good weather, good zoo, good friends, good food. Overall just a pleasant place to be.
- Mount Herman - This is a yearly summer tradition for us.
- Lake Tahoe (on the Lake) - A summer without a lake is not really a summer.
- Akron Ohio/Masontown PA - See my mom and my dad.
- Day Trips to Santa Cruz, Carmel Beach, Big Trees,
- San Francisco Giants Baseball Games
- Concerts at the Mountain Winery and Villa Montavlo
I will keep on adding to the list and will take additional suggestions which are practical and work for a family of 6. By the way, we will not hit the amuzement parks until little Dylan is 3. We don't want to be in the park with strollers or diapers and want all the kids to experience the sense of wonderment.

For those who are interested, here is what the working environment I have helped build at XOJET (view from standing in the doorway to my office). The team I oversee is responsible for all airline scheduling, owner services, and flight services (catering, ground transportation). The low partitions facilitate strong communication and the 50 inch monitors enable us to monitor all aircraft movements and weather conditions.
Rolling Stone ran an article entitled "Class Shows Free Online" which led me to find Wolfgang's Vault website. The site streams over 300 concerts from Bowie to the Who. It is fantastic. Today I listened to
- The Who - Filmore East 4/6/1968
- Bruce Springsteen - Winterland 12/15/1978
Check it out.
